Each time a major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find a demand to include of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the passions of fans with niche passions.
A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.
For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything during that awards season
- A different innovative game missed out that year
- Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
- Just some puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide and have been for over a decade.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
