Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
